PART 5 — THE UNBORN HEIR

PART 5 — THE UNBORN HEIR

Later that night, I was taken to a private hospital wing.

Not a prison.

Not a clinic.

A sanctuary guarded by people my father trusted more than governments.

Santiago was gone.

Beatriz was under investigation.

But the war wasn’t over yet.

Because the baby was still coming.

My father sat beside me quietly.

For a long time, he didn’t speak.

Then:

“You were supposed to call me earlier.”

I stared at him.

“I thought I could fix it myself.”

He shook his head.

“No one fixes something built to break you.”

A pause.

Then softer:

“You’re home now.”

May you like

Outside the window, dawn broke over Mexico City.

For the first time in years… I could breathe without fear.
