Chapter 9: Project New Owner

Chapter 9: Project New Owner

No one spoke.

Every eye remained fixed on the computer screen.

The folder sat there in silence.

PROJECT NEW OWNER.

Daniel looked at Elena.

"Are you ready?"

She took a slow breath.

"Open it."

He clicked the folder.

Dozens of files appeared.

Contracts.

Financial projections.

Private emails.

Voice recordings.

Scanned passports.

Corporate charts.

Each file was carefully organized.

Marcus hadn't planned chaos.

He had planned a takeover.

Margaret stepped closer.

"He documented everything."

Victor frowned.

"Arrogant people usually do."

Daniel opened the first document.

Its title read:

Phase One – Executive Dependence.

The room fell silent again.

The document described a strategy that stretched back nearly eight years.

Step one.

Make Julian believe he was the unquestioned face of the company.

Encourage media attention.

Promote interviews.

Feed his ego.

Reduce his involvement in operational details.

Elena felt sick.

Marcus hadn't fought Julian's arrogance.

He had encouraged it.

Every compliment.

Every award nomination.

Every magazine cover.

Every speech.

Marcus had quietly pushed them forward.

Her father folded his arms.

"He wasn't building Julian."

"He was distracting him."

Daniel opened the next file.

Phase Two – Administrative Isolation.

Marcus had slowly replaced trusted managers with people loyal to him.

Not everywhere.

Only in departments that controlled paperwork.

Finance.

Compliance.

International transfers.

Vendor approvals.

Enough to move money without attracting attention.

Victor shook his head.

"This took years."

Margaret nodded.

"He was incredibly patient."

Another file appeared.

Phase Three – Signature Collection.

Julian's signature had been copied onto hundreds of approvals.

Not forged.

Obtained legally.

Marcus simply buried critical language inside routine documents.

Julian signed them without reading.

Exactly as Marcus predicted.

Daniel looked toward Elena.

"He studied Julian."

Elena nodded sadly.

"He knew his weaknesses."

Across town, Julian sat alone in his hotel room.

His television remained on mute.

His phone hadn't stopped ringing.

He ignored every call.

Instead, he opened an old photo album stored in his cloud account.

Picture after picture appeared.

Business launches.

Award ceremonies.

Luxury vacations.

Charity galas.

At first glance...

Every photograph seemed to celebrate him.

Then he noticed something strange.

Elena always stood slightly behind him.

Smiling.

Supporting.

Never seeking attention.

Even during interviews...

She often stepped aside before cameras started rolling.

He remembered asking her why.

She had smiled.

"This company doesn't need two people fighting for one spotlight."

He thought she lacked ambition.

Now he wondered if she simply possessed confidence he never understood.

A knock interrupted his thoughts.

Julian opened the door cautiously.

Claire stood outside.

His younger sister looked exhausted.

"I thought you might need someone."

Julian stepped aside.

She entered quietly.

The room was painfully ordinary.

Claire looked around.

"I've never seen you like this."

Julian laughed bitterly.

"I've never seen me like this either."

She sat across from him.

"Tell me the truth."

He looked away.

"I don't know what the truth is anymore."

Claire reached into her purse.

She removed a small envelope.

"I found this after Mom passed away."

Julian frowned.

"What is it?"

"A letter."

"From Elena."

Julian's heart skipped.

Claire handed it to him.

"You were never supposed to see it."

His hands trembled as he unfolded the paper.

The date stunned him.

Seven years earlier.

Long before everything fell apart.

The letter was short.

"Claire."

"If Julian ever reaches a point where success becomes more important than kindness..."

"Please don't hate him."

"Remind him who he used to be."

"That's the man I fell in love with."

There was no anger.

No blame.

Only hope.

Julian slowly lowered the letter.

His eyes filled with tears.

"She still believed in me."

Claire nodded.

"Long after everyone else stopped."

Back at headquarters, Daniel opened another file from Marcus's archive.

This one contained audio recordings.

The first recording began to play.

Marcus's voice filled the room.

"Julian signs whatever I place in front of him."

Several executives exchanged uneasy glances.

Another voice answered.

It was unfamiliar.

"And Elena?"

Marcus laughed.

"She's too busy protecting him."

The recording continued.

"As long as those two remain focused on each other..."

"...no one will notice what's happening underneath."

Elena closed her eyes.

Marcus hadn't just manipulated the business.

He had manipulated their marriage.

Daniel opened another recording.

This one was much shorter.

Marcus again.

"Once ownership shifts..."

"...they'll spend years blaming each other."

"Neither will realize I was the one moving the pieces."

Victor slammed his hand against the table.

"He planned every conflict."

Margaret looked at Elena.

"He benefited from your silence."

Elena whispered softly.

"And from Julian's pride."

Daniel opened the final folder.

His expression immediately changed.

"What is it?"

He slowly turned the monitor.

"This wasn't part of the financial plan."

On the screen appeared a detailed family tree.

The Hart family.

Generations of names.

Photographs.

Birth certificates.

Marriage licenses.

Then...

One branch highlighted in red.

Marcus Ellis.

Connected to the Hart family.

Not by marriage.

By blood.

The room froze.

Elena stepped closer.

"No..."

Daniel zoomed in.

An old birth certificate appeared.

Her great-grandfather's name.

A daughter no one had ever spoken about.

Records showed she disappeared from public documents decades earlier.

Margaret whispered.

"This was hidden."

Victor stared at the screen.

"If this is authentic..."

"...Marcus isn't just a former executive."

Her father finished the sentence.

"He's a Hart."

Silence consumed the room.

Everything suddenly looked different.

The stolen money.

The obsession with ownership.

The years of planning.

This had never been about becoming rich.

It had been about reclaiming what Marcus believed belonged to him.

Daniel scrolled to the bottom of the file.

A scanned handwritten note appeared.

It contained only one sentence.

"The empire was stolen from my grandmother."

Elena felt a chill run down her spine.

Then Daniel noticed something even more alarming.

"There are more files."

He clicked another folder.

Its label contained a date.

Tomorrow – 8:00 A.M.

Inside...

There was only one document.

A confirmed airline reservation.

Passenger Name:

Marcus Ellis.

Destination:

New York City.

Arrival Time:

Tomorrow morning.

Elena looked at her father.

"He isn't running anymore."

Her father nodded grimly.

May you like

"No."

"He's coming back."
