Chapter 4 – A Public Reckoning

Chapter 4 – A Public Reckoning

The next morning, Daniel stood outside Lauren's house holding flowers.

She never opened the door.

Instead, she spoke through the security camera.

"What do you want?"

"I know the truth."

"You knew the truth weeks ago."

"I was wrong."

"No," Lauren replied quietly.

"You made a choice."

He lowered his head.

"I'm sorry."

"For accusing me?"

"Yes."

"For abandoning me?"

"Yes."

"For replacing me before our marriage was even over?"

Daniel couldn't answer.

Lauren continued.

"You didn't just stop loving me."

"You stopped respecting me."

"And once respect disappears, love can't survive."

Days later, Daniel surprised everyone.

He uploaded a new post.

This time there were no glamorous restaurant photos.

Only a written statement.

I falsely accused my wife of infidelity.

Medical evidence proved I was wrong.

My actions caused unimaginable pain to the woman carrying our child.

Every rumor about Lauren was a lie, and I accept full responsibility.

She deserved my trust.

Instead, I gave her humiliation.

I will regret that for the rest of my life.

The same people who had judged Lauren began apologizing.

Some privately.

Others publicly.

Lauren accepted none of the apologies.

Not because she hated them.

Because she had finally stopped needing their approval.
