Chapter 2 – The Date That Changed Everything

Daniel stepped closer to the ultrasound monitor with his arms still crossed, but the confidence in his posture had begun to fade.

"What am I supposed to be looking at?" he asked.

Dr. Anderson clicked a few buttons on the machine before pointing to the measurements displayed on the screen.

"This fetus measures approximately eight weeks and four days."

Daniel frowned.

"So?"

She looked directly into his eyes.

"You told your wife you had your vasectomy two months ago."

"That's right."

"And according to these measurements, conception occurred before your procedure."

The room became eerily quiet.

Daniel blinked.

"No... that's impossible."

"It isn't," Dr. Anderson replied calmly. "Pregnancy dating at this stage is remarkably accurate. Your wife's pregnancy aligns with a conception date that occurred before your surgery."

Lauren felt tears spill down her cheeks.

"I told you."

Daniel stared at the screen again, unable to speak.

Vanessa suddenly stepped forward.

"Maybe she's lying about when she got pregnant."

Dr. Anderson shook her head.

"The baby's development, heartbeat, and measurements all support the same timeline."

She paused before adding,

"Furthermore, even after a vasectomy, fertility doesn't disappear overnight. Until follow-up testing confirms there are no remaining sperm, pregnancy is still entirely possible."

Lauren slowly turned toward Daniel.

"You never even waited for the test results, did you?"

Daniel said nothing.

His silence answered the question.

Dr. Anderson looked disappointed.

"You accused your pregnant wife without understanding your own medical procedure."

For the first time since walking out of their home, Daniel looked ashamed.
