News spread quickly after the appointment.
Daniel canceled the divorce hearing.
He called Lauren over twenty times.
She ignored every call.
Meanwhile, Vanessa became increasingly nervous.
She insisted Daniel stay away from Lauren.
"She's manipulating you," Vanessa said.
"You saw the doctor's report."
"Doctors can be wrong."
But Daniel couldn't forget Dr. Anderson's words.
Something else began bothering him.
He remembered little things.
The anonymous messages warning him that Lauren was "cheating."
The photos that had conveniently appeared in his inbox.
The rumors that somehow reached his mother before they reached him.
One evening, Daniel borrowed Vanessa's laptop while his phone charged.
A notification popped onto the screen.
His own name.
Curious, he clicked it.
His blood ran cold.
There were dozens of conversations between Vanessa and another coworker.
One message read:
He believed everything exactly like we planned.
Another said:
Once the divorce is finalized, he'll inherit the house without splitting anything with Lauren.
Then came the message that shattered him.
The vasectomy was the perfect excuse. Men panic when they think a baby can't be theirs.
Daniel's hands began shaking.
Every accusation...
Every cruel word...
Every public humiliation...
Had been orchestrated by the woman sitting in his living room.
When Vanessa returned home, she immediately realized he'd seen everything.
"Daniel..."
"Get out."
She tried to explain.
