Chapter 10: The Unbroken Shield

Three months later, the crisp autumn wind swept across the parade grounds of Fort Liberty, rustling the golden leaves that lined the asphalt. Thousands of soldiers stood in immaculate formation, their boots locked in rigid alignment as martial music echoed from the base loudspeakers.

At the center stage, a massive assembly of military brass, civilian dignitaries, and defense officials had gathered for a historic promotion ceremony.

Major General Arthur Vance stepped up to the podium, his chest gleaming with ribbons. He cleared his throat, his deep, commanding voice carrying effortlessly across the parade field.

"For exceptional leadership, unwavering courage, and absolute dedication to the principles of justice, honor, and national security..." General Vance announced, pausing for dramatic effect. "Colonel Victoria Hart is hereby promoted to the rank of Brigadier General."

Applause erupted across the field, a thunderous roar of cheering soldiers and clapping officers.

Seated in the VIP section near the front, dressed in a sharp, elegant navy blue dress, Emily Hart stood up and clapped louder than anyone else. The bruises were long gone, replaced by a radiant, genuine smile that reached her eyes. She was alive, she was free, and she was surrounded by people who loved and respected her.

Victoria walked firmly across the stage, her posture straight and proud. General Vance stepped forward, carefully pinning the silver star of a Brigadier General onto the collar of her uniform. He extended his hand, a deep respect shining in his eyes.

"Congratulations, General Hart," Vance said quietly. "You earned every bit of this."

"Thank you, General," Victoria replied, offering a crisp, textbook salute.

She turned around to face the assembly, her eyes sweeping over the rows of soldiers, the flags snapping in the wind, and finally landing on her daughter in the front row.

The Prescott family name had been reduced to a cautionary tale in financial textbooks and legal journals—a reminder of what happens when corrupt wealth mistakes power for invincibility. But the Hart name stood taller than ever.

Victoria raised her hand in a final, proud salute to the troops, knowing that her uniform wasn't just a symbol of military might.

It was an unyielding shield. And as long as she wore it, no predator would ever lay a hand on her family again.
