Chapter 7: The Raid

The sun had not yet risen when the convoy of black SUVs and armored tactical vehicles rolled silently through the wrought-iron gates of the Prescott estate. There were no flashing lights. No blaring sirens. This was a calculated, precise federal operation, executed with military efficiency.

Upstairs in the master suite, Margaret was awake. She hadn't slept a wink. She was sitting on the edge of her four-poster bed, aggressively dialing her Swiss banker, trying desperately to wire whatever liquid assets she had left into untraceable crypto accounts.

CRASH.

The sound of the massive oak front doors being breached by a tactical ram echoed through the mansion like a bomb going off.

"FBI! Federal agents! Warrants served! Nobody move!"

Margaret dropped her phone. The screen shattered on the Italian marble floor. Heavy, booted footsteps thundered up the grand staircase.

Down the hall, Ethan’s bedroom door was kicked open. He shrieked as three heavily armed agents swarmed the room.

"Hands! Let me see your hands!" a tactical officer roared, aiming a rifle at the bed.

"I'm unarmed! I'm unarmed!" Ethan sobbed, throwing his hands in the air. He was yanked out of bed, his face slammed onto the hardwood floor as cold steel handcuffs were ratcheted tightly around his wrists. "My mother is down the hall! She did the finances! I just work in acquisitions!"

In the master suite, two agents stepped into the room. Margaret drew herself up, tying her silk robe tightly around her waist. Even now, she tried to wield her fading authority.

"Do you have any idea who I am?" she hissed, glaring at the lead agent. "I will have your badges for this intrusion."

The agent, a stone-faced veteran of the Bureau's white-collar crime division, pulled a thick sheaf of papers from his vest. "Margaret Prescott, you are under arrest for conspiracy to commit wire fraud, tax evasion, racketeering, and obstruction of justice. Turn around and place your hands behind your back."

"I demand to call my attorney!"

"Your son Brandon was arrested ten minutes ago at his downtown condo trying to shred documents," the agent replied flatly. "Turn around, ma'am. Now."

Outside, the dawn broke, illuminating a scene that would dominate the morning news networks for weeks. Margaret, Ethan, and Brandon Prescott were paraded out of their mansion in handcuffs, looking disheveled, terrified, and utterly defeated.

Fifty miles away, sitting in the secure basement of the safe house, Emily watched the live news broadcast on a wall-mounted monitor. The local news helicopters had caught the entire perp walk.

She watched her abuser, Ethan, crying as he was shoved into the back of a federal vehicle.

I stood behind her, resting a gentle hand on her shoulder. "How do you feel?" I asked quietly.

Emily took a deep breath, her eyes locked on the screen. "Lighter. Like I can finally breathe."

"This is just the first phase, Emily," I reminded her. "The financial crimes will put them away for years. But the real justice... the justice for what he did to you... that comes next."

Emily nodded, turning to look at me, her blue eyes sharp and resolute. "I'm ready, Mom. Let's finish it."
