PART 6: The Last Word

PART 6: The Last Word
On Grace's fifth birthday, family and friends gathered in the backyard.
Children laughed as balloons floated into the blue sky.
Daniel watched Sarah kneel beside their daughter, helping her blow out the candles.
Years earlier, he had feared he might lose them both.
Now he watched them smile together.
As the celebration ended, Sarah opened a small memory box.
Inside was the old phone.
Its battery no longer worked.
The recording would never play again.
It didn't need to.
Justice had been served.
Their family had healed.
Sarah closed the box and smiled at Daniel.
"We're finally free."
He slipped his hand into hers.
"We always will be."
They walked back toward their daughter, leaving the past exactly where it belonged.

Behind them.
And for the first time in a very long time, the future felt brighter than the pain they had left behind.
