CHAPTER 12 — THE FINAL GAME OF VICTOR HALE

The abandoned warehouse stood at the edge of the city.
No lights.
No cameras.
No security.
Exactly the kind of place someone like Victor Hale would choose.
A place where he believed he controlled everything.
Isabella stepped out of the car.
Her security team waited several blocks away.
She had insisted on coming alone.
Not because she trusted Victor.
Because she understood him.
People like Victor didn’t invite others into their games.
They invited them into their traps.
And Isabella needed to know what he believed he had.
Inside the warehouse, footsteps echoed.
Victor Hale stood near an old wooden table.
He looked calm.
Almost relaxed.
“Isabella Montrose.”
She stopped several feet away.
“Victor Hale.”
He smiled.
“You’re exactly like your grandfather.”
“That’s supposed to scare me?”
“No.”
He looked at her carefully.
“It’s supposed to warn you.”
Isabella remained silent.
Victor picked up a folder.
“You think this is about Cross Global.”
“It isn’t.”
“You think this is about my daughter.”
“It isn’t.”
He placed the folder on the table.
“This is about the Montrose legacy.”
Isabella didn’t move.
“What did you take from my family?”
Victor laughed quietly.
“Always direct.”
“That’s why your grandfather chose you.”
She narrowed her eyes.
“You knew him.”
“Yes.”
The answer came immediately.
“I worked with him.”
“No.”
Victor smiled.
“I worked against him.”
The room became silent.
Victor opened the folder.
“Your grandfather was brilliant.”
“He built one of the most powerful financial organizations in the world.”
“But he had one weakness.”
“What?”
“He believed people could be trusted.”
Isabella looked at the documents.
“What does this have to do with you?”
Victor’s expression darkened.
“Everything.”
Years earlier…
Before Isabella was born…
Victor Hale and Alexander Montrose were partners.
Not friends.
Partners.
They built investments together.
They controlled markets.
They created opportunities.
Until one decision changed everything.
Victor wanted control.
Alexander wanted responsibility.
And when Alexander refused to turn Montrose Global into a weapon…
Victor left.
But he didn’t leave empty-handed.
He took information.
Secrets.
Strategies.
Enough knowledge to spend decades trying to destroy the company he once helped build.
“My grandfather removed you.”
“Yes.”
“Because you betrayed him.”
Victor smiled.
“Because I challenged him.”
Isabella shook her head.
“No.”
“You wanted power.”
Victor looked at her.
“And you don’t?”
The question hung in the air.
Because it was the one question powerful people always faced.
The difference between leadership and control.
Isabella answered calmly.
“I want responsibility.”
Victor smiled.
“That’s exactly what your grandfather taught you to say.”
He opened another document.
“This is why your grandfather never trusted marriage.”
Isabella froze.
“What?”
“He believed love created weakness.”
“That’s not true.”
“Isn’t it?”
Victor looked at her.
“You married Damian.”
A pause.
“You gave him access.”
“You trusted him.”
“And he betrayed you.”
The words hit differently.
Because they were true.
But Isabella refused to let Victor use her pain.
“You confuse betrayal with weakness.”
Victor raised an eyebrow.
“Explain.”
“Trusting someone is not weakness.”
“Choosing the wrong person is not failure.”
She stepped closer.
“Using someone’s trust against them is.”
Victor stared at her.
For the first time…
He looked slightly impressed.
“You really are your grandfather’s granddaughter.”
“No.”
Isabella shook her head.
“I’m my own person.”
Victor pushed the final document forward.
“This is what you came for.”
She opened it.
Her expression changed.
It was a letter from her grandfather.
But it wasn’t addressed to her.
It was addressed to Victor.
Victor,
You spent your life trying to prove power matters more than loyalty.
One day, you will discover the difference.
Power can force people to obey.
But loyalty makes people stand beside you when you have nothing.
Isabella looked up.
Victor’s face remained emotionless.
But his eyes changed.
Because the letter had reached somewhere deeper.
“You never understood why I won,” Isabella said.
Victor looked at her.
“I haven’t lost.”
She nodded.
“You think winning means taking something from someone.”
A pause.
“That’s why you will always lose.”
Victor’s expression hardened.
“You’re confident.”
“No.”
She closed the folder.
“I’m certain.”
Suddenly, police sirens echoed outside.
Victor’s expression changed.
“What did you do?”
Isabella looked toward the entrance.
“I didn’t do anything.”
“Your mistake was believing I came here without preparing.”
Victor stared.
“You tracked me.”
“No.”
She looked at him.
“I predicted you.”
The warehouse doors opened.
Investigators entered.
“Victor Hale.”
“You are under investigation for market manipulation, financial fraud, and conspiracy.”
Victor didn’t resist.
But before leaving, he looked at Isabella.
“This isn’t over.”
She watched him being taken away.
“Yes.”
Her voice was calm.
“It is.”
Later that night, Isabella returned to Montrose Headquarters.
Her father was waiting.
“Are you okay?”
She nodded.
“I finally understand.”
“Understand what?”
She looked at the city.
“Why my grandfather created the succession test.”
Alexander smiled slightly.
“Tell me.”
“He wasn’t testing whether I could build an empire.”
“He was testing whether I could protect one without losing myself.”
The next morning, another announcement shocked the world.
VICTOR HALE ARRESTED AFTER MONTROSE EVIDENCE LEADS TO INVESTIGATION
But the biggest surprise came from Isabella.
She announced a new direction for Montrose Global.
A direction focused not on domination.
But responsibility.
The empire was changing.
And the woman who inherited it had finally discovered the true meaning of power.
However…
One question remained.
Damian Cross.
The man who had lost everything.
The man who had finally accepted the truth.
