The executive boardroom had never been so quiet.
Twenty-three directors sat around the polished walnut table.
No one spoke.
No one even looked at Daniel.
Only Elena.
She entered without rushing, dressed in a navy suit that commanded attention without asking for it.
Her chief legal officer placed a folder in front of every board member.
Daniel stood.
"You can't do this."
"I built this company."
Elena looked at him calmly.
"You managed it."
"My family built it."
The room remained silent.
One by one, the directors nodded toward Elena.
Chairman Harrison adjusted his glasses.
"As majority shareholder, Ms. Elena Ward has exercised her legal authority."
He slid another document across the table.
"Daniel Brooks, your employment is hereby terminated, effective immediately."
Daniel stared in disbelief.
"This is insane."
"I deserve an explanation."
Elena smiled politely.
"You had four years to ask who actually owned this company."
"You never did."
Security entered moments later.
Not aggressively.
Professionally.
"Mr. Brooks..."
"This way, please."
Daniel looked around the room.
Nobody stood for him.
Nobody defended him.
The directors who once applauded his speeches avoided eye contact.
Because they had always known.
They simply assumed Elena wanted Daniel in charge.
Now they knew differently.
