Chapter 2: The Fallout

The Villaseñor mansion descended into chaos within minutes. Paulina’s screams and breaking glass echoed from the master suite upstairs as she threw a spectacular tantrum. The household staff, usually invisible and silent, exchanged wide-eyed glances, hovering in the hallways.
In the quiet sanctuary of Diego's private study, the heavy oak doors were shut tight against the noise. Marisol sat on the edge of a leather Chesterfield sofa, holding Valentina on her lap. The little girl was quietly tracing the stitching on her worn stuffed rabbit, blissfully unaware of the hurricane she had just caused.
Diego paced the length of the room, a glass of amber liquid in his hand, though he hadn't taken a single sip.
"She’s going to go to the press," Marisol said quietly, her fingers nervously smoothing Valentina's hair. "Paulina won't just walk away, Diego. She's going to ruin you. She'll tell everyone that your maid..."
"Let her," Diego interrupted, stopping his pacing to look at her. "I don't care about the press. I don't care about the board of directors. The only thing I care about right now is sitting on that sofa."
Marisol swallowed hard. "Diego, you can't just upend your life for us. We're fine. I can find another job. I can take Valentina and—"
"If you try to run from me again," Diego said, his voice thick with emotion as he knelt in front of the sofa, bringing himself to eye level with his daughter, "I will tear this entire country apart to find you. You are never sleeping in those servant quarters again. And Valentina..." He reached out, his large, trembling hand gently touching the little girl's cheek. Valentina looked up, her dark, solemn eyes meeting his. "...Valentina is a Villaseñor. She is my heir. And she is going to have everything that was stolen from her."
Valentina blinked, then held out her small hand, revealing the gold button. "Yours," she said softly.
Diego’s eyes watered. He took the button, his heart breaking at the innocence of the child he had missed out on for three years. "Thank you, mi princesa," he whispered.
Suddenly, the study doors burst open. Paulina stood there, flanked by two security guards who looked deeply apologetic. She was fully dressed in a designer pantsuit, her luggage visible in the hallway behind her. Her makeup was slightly smeared, but her eyes were venomous.
"You're making the biggest mistake of your life, Diego," Paulina hissed, pointing a perfectly manicured finger at Marisol. "My father is on your board. We own thirty percent of the Santa Fe development. If you humiliate me for this... this trash... we will pull our funding. We will ruin your company."
Diego stood up slowly, his imposing figure shielding Marisol and Valentina. The aura of the ruthless businessman snapped back into place.
"Tell your father to pull his funding," Diego said coldly. "I'll buy his shares at a premium by tomorrow morning. And Paulina? If you ever refer to the mother of my child as 'trash' again, I will personally ensure your family's holding company is investigated for the tax fraud I know your father has been hiding since 2021. Do we understand each other?"
Paulina’s face went ash-white. She opened her mouth to speak, but nothing came out. She spun on her heel and marched out of the house, the heavy front doors slamming behind her with a finality that shook the windows.
Diego turned back to Marisol, exhaling a long breath. "She's gone."

"She's going to declare war," Marisol whispered, terrified of the world she had just been dragged into.
"Let her," Diego replied, extending a hand to Marisol. "Come on. Let me show you to your new rooms."
