Chapter 19: Building a Legacy

Six months later.
The grand ballroom of the Villaseñor mansion was unrecognizable. Instead of a stiff, old-money society gala, the room was filled with bright colors, children’s laughter, and the joyous sounds of a mariachi band playing in the corner.
Tonight was the inaugural charity gala for The Flores Foundation, a philanthropic organization Marisol had founded to provide free legal defense, housing, and job placement for wrongfully accused individuals and struggling single mothers.
Marisol stood at the podium, looking out over the crowd. She wore a stunning crimson gown, her diamond wedding band catching the light. But it wasn't the jewelry that made her shine; it was the profound, radiant happiness that seemed to glow from within her.
"Four years ago, I walked through the service entrance of this very house," Marisol spoke into the microphone, her voice steady and powerful. "I was terrified, exhausted, and convinced that the world only had room for people with power. But I learned something important in the shadows. The most powerful people aren't the ones who can destroy lives. They are the ones who can rebuild them."
The crowd erupted into passionate applause. Among the attendees were dozens of women Marisol’s foundation had already helped.
Sitting at the head table, Diego watched his wife with a look of pure, unadulterated awe. He was holding Valentina on his lap, who was busy eating a chocolate strawberry, completely unfazed by the hundreds of people around them.
Next to Diego sat Doña Isabela. The fierce matriarch had mellowed—slightly. She still commanded the room with a mere glance, but as she watched Marisol command the stage, a rare, genuine smile touched her wrinkled features.
"She is formidable," Isabela murmured to Diego, sipping her champagne. "I was wrong about her. She doesn't just wear the Villaseñor name, Diego. She elevates it."
Diego smiled, kissing the top of Valentina’s head. "I told you she was a queen."
After the speeches, the ballroom floor opened for dancing. Diego found Marisol near the patio doors, gently pulling her away from a group of enthusiastic journalists.
"You were incredible up there," Diego said, wrapping his arms around her waist and swaying her slowly to the music.
"I was nervous," Marisol laughed, resting her hands on his chest. "But then I looked at you and Val, and I remembered why I was doing it."
Diego leaned down, pressing his forehead against hers. "I am so incredibly proud of you. But I have a question. Arturo tells me you cleared my entire schedule for next week. Care to tell me why?"
Marisol’s eyes sparkled with mischievous delight. She reached into her clutch purse and pulled out a small, folded piece of paper, pressing it into his hand.
Diego opened it. It was a sonogram.
His breath hitched. The music, the crowd, the entire room seemed to fall away. He looked up at Marisol, his eyes wide and filling with tears. "Are you... are we...?"

"Valentina is going to be a big sister," Marisol whispered, wiping a tear from her own cheek. "A little boy, Diego."
Diego didn't care that they were in a room full of reporters. He picked Marisol up and spun her around, burying his face in her neck as he laughed and cried at the same time. The flashbulbs popped, capturing the billionaire acting like a completely joyous fool, but for the first time in his life, Diego couldn't care less about his image.
