Chapter 2: An Unexpected Invitation

The next morning, Leah arrived at work expecting to be treated like any other employee.

Instead, she found a handwritten envelope waiting on her desk.

Inside was a simple note.

Would you join my mother and me for lunch today?

—Nathan Sinclair

Leah almost thought it was a prank.

It wasn't.

That afternoon she entered the Sinclair estate, where Margaret greeted her with a warm embrace instead of formal introductions.

Over tea, Margaret shared stories about raising Nathan after losing her husband decades earlier.

"We built our family's success on one rule," Margaret said.

"Wealth should never change how you treat people."

Nathan listened quietly before turning to Leah.

"My foundation is expanding several community programs."

He paused.

"We need leaders with integrity, not impressive résumés."

Leah blinked.

"I've never managed anything that large."

"You managed something far more difficult," Nathan replied.

"You stood alone."
