Chapter 3: The Best Gift

Chapter 3: The Best Gift
Three months later...
The relatives were forced to move into separate apartments after failing to find another family member willing to support them.
The grandmother called several times.
At first, to argue.
Then to apologize.
The mother listened quietly before answering.
"I forgive you."
There was a long pause.
"But forgiveness doesn't erase consequences."
She wished her well and ended the call.
That evening, Abby came home from school carrying a handmade card.
It read:
"My Hero."
Inside, she had written:
"Thank you for choosing me when everyone else didn't."
The mother couldn't hold back her tears.
She hugged Abby tightly.
"No matter where life takes us," she whispered, "you will always come first."
Years later, Abby would remember that Christmas not as the year she was rejected...
...but as the year she learned what unconditional love truly looked like.
Because the greatest gift under that tree wasn't wrapped in paper.
