Three months later...
Sunlight poured through the hospital window.
Emily cradled a healthy baby girl in her arms while her husband gently kissed both of their foreheads.
The nightmare at the mansion finally felt distant.
The older man stepped into the room carrying a small wooden box.
"I owe you an apology," he said, his voice trembling.
"I chose the wrong person to believe, and I nearly lost both of you because of it."
Emily looked at him for a long moment before softly nodding.
"I forgive you."
Tears filled his eyes as he met his granddaughter for the very first time.
Outside the courtroom later that week, Victoria received her sentence for attempted murder after the security footage and her own confession left the jury with no reasonable doubt.
Justice had finally been served.
As Emily watched her daughter peacefully sleeping, she realized something important.
The truth may be ignored for a while.
It may be mocked.
It may even be buried beneath lies.
