Detective Ruiz motioned toward his team.
“Secure the house. Retrieve the backup footage.”
The blonde woman suddenly looked toward the caretaker.
“No cameras were working!” she snapped.
Ruiz didn’t look at her.
“They were,” he said simply. “We installed our own yesterday.”
Color drained from her face.
The pregnant woman slowly lowered herself into a chair that one of the agents brought over.
Pain flickered across her expression for the first time—but only briefly.
Then it disappeared again.
Because she was watching the hallway.
Waiting.
Two agents returned with a tablet.
Video footage loaded instantly.
The staircase.
The shove.
The fall.
And then—something the blonde woman hadn’t seen.
After the fall, while she was crying above her victim…
She smiled.
Just for a second.
The room went dead silent.
The caretaker stepped back again, realizing too late what she had witnessed.
The blonde woman whispered, shaking now.
