The hallway felt smaller now.
Heavier.
The blonde woman was handcuffed, still screaming.
The caretaker collapsed in tears.
Detective Ruiz turned to the pregnant woman.
“It’s done. You’re safe.”
She nodded—but didn’t smile.
Instead, she walked slowly to the staircase, looking at the spot where she fell.
Then she spoke quietly:
“People always think power is loud.”
She turned back toward them.
“But real power… is waiting until the moment they think you’ve lost.”
She pulled out her phone one last time.
Sent a message.
Then looked up.
“They just confirmed the arrest upstairs too.”
The blonde woman froze mid-struggle.
“What arrest?”
The pregnant woman’s expression turned cold again.
“My husband’s business partner.”
A beat of silence.
Then—
Detective Ruiz’s radio cracked to life.
“Suspect in custody. Evidence secured. Entire network collapsing.”
The pregnant woman turned away as officers led the blonde woman out.
