Detective Ruiz walked in first.
His eyes immediately locked onto the pregnant woman on the floor… then the blonde woman standing above her.
“Don’t move,” he said sharply.
The blonde woman panicked.
“She attacked me! She fell on her own—I was defending myself!”
The caretaker nodded nervously. “Yes… I saw it. She shoved her—”
But the pregnant woman raised one finger.
“Check the staircase camera.”
Silence.
The blonde woman froze.
“What camera? There’s no—”
Detective Ruiz raised his hand.
A technician stepped forward, opening a hidden panel in the wall near the staircase.
