CHAPTER 4 – THE FAMILY SECRET

CHAPTER 4 – THE FAMILY SECRET

Detectives searched the entire property.

Inside an old storage room behind the catering kitchen...

they discovered something unexpected.

Boxes.

Hundreds of documents.

Old birth certificates.

Medical files.

Adoption paperwork.

One detective slowly looked at me.

"Ma'am..."

"I think you need to see this."

The name on the oldest birth certificate belonged to me.

But my mother wasn't listed as my biological mother.

Another woman was.

A woman reported missing twenty-six years earlier.

The detective explained quietly.

Your parents had never legally adopted you.

They had simply...

taken you.

The missing woman's file had been left unsolved for decades.

Now it wasn't.

The detectives believed my parents had kidnapped me as a baby after a private adoption arrangement collapsed.

Everything suddenly made sense.

Why I never resembled anyone.

Why my grandparents never visited.

Why family photos before I turned three barely existed.

I hadn't just been treated differently.

I had never truly belonged to them.
