Chapter 6 – The Morning I Finally Chose Myself

Chapter 6 – The Morning I Finally Chose Myself

One year later, breakfast looked very different.

No shouting.

No criticism.

No fear.

Just sunlight pouring through my condo windows.

Fresh coffee.

Music playing softly in the background.

I still woke up early.

Not because someone demanded it.

Because peace has its own routine.

I expanded my pharmacy career into healthcare consulting.

The confidence I thought Preston had given me had actually been mine all along.

He had only convinced me otherwise.

One Saturday morning, my father joined me for breakfast.

He smiled at the spread on the table.

"Tradition?" he joked.

I laughed.

"No."

"Choice."

He raised his coffee mug.

"Much better."

As I looked out over the Chicago skyline, I realized something that no wedding vow had ever taught me.

Love is never proven by how much pain you tolerate.

It is proven by how quickly you walk away from the people who demand it.

The slap had lasted one second.

May you like

The lesson would protect me for the rest of my life.

THE END
