Chapter 5 – A Courtroom Full of Truth

Three months later, the courtroom was quiet.

The judge reviewed photographs.

Medical records.

Recorded phone calls.

Financial documents.

Witness statements.

When Preston testified, he repeated the same sentence.

"It was only one slap."

The judge looked directly at him.

"There is no such thing as 'only' assault."

The divorce was granted.

The protective order remained in effect.

The prenuptial agreement was fully enforced.

Preston walked away with nothing beyond the property he had owned before the marriage.

The luxury condo remained mine.

The Tesla remained mine.

My investments remained mine.

Most importantly—

My future remained mine.

Outside the courthouse, reporters waited.

I ignored every microphone.

As I reached my car, Richard approached quietly.

He looked older than I remembered.

"I'm sorry," he said.

"I should've stopped him."

I nodded.

"You should have."

He didn't argue.

He simply walked away.
