Chapter 18: The Truth About Beatrice

Chapter 18: The Truth About Beatrice

The room went silent.

Not the peaceful kind of silence.

The kind that came before something shattered.

Leo Rossi stared at Isabella.

The woman he had loved.

The woman he had mourned.

The woman who was supposed to bring answers.

But instead…

She had brought another impossible truth.

“Because of Beatrice?”

The words left his mouth slowly.

Isabella nodded.

But there was pain in her eyes.

Not anger.

Not hatred.

Pain.

“Leo, listen to me.”

He looked at Beatrice.

She looked terrified.

Not because she was caught.

Because she didn’t understand either.

For years, Beatrice Miller had believed she was ordinary.

A maid.

A woman who cleaned rooms.

Prepared meals.

Stayed invisible.

A woman who had spent her life being overlooked.

Now she was standing in the middle of the biggest secret in the Rossi family.

And everyone was looking at her.

“I don’t understand.”

Her voice shook.

“I don’t understand what you’re saying.”

Isabella stepped closer.

“I know.”

“That’s why you were safe.”

Beatrice looked confused.

“Safe from what?”

Isabella looked at Leo.

“From remembering.”

Leo immediately stepped between them.

“No.”

His voice was firm.

“She saved my daughter.”

Isabella nodded.

“I know.”

“She risked her life.”

“I know.”

“She protected Lily when everyone else failed.”

“I know.”

“Then explain why you’re saying she’s the reason behind all this.”

Isabella looked at Beatrice.

“Because she was never supposed to survive.”

Everyone froze.

Isabella walked toward the desk and opened an old file.

Inside was a photograph.

A young woman.

A little girl.

And a man Leo recognized.

Marco Rossi.

Beatrice stared at the picture.

Her face changed.

“No…”

She stepped closer.

“That’s impossible.”

Isabella handed her the photograph.

“You were there.”

Beatrice shook her head.

“I would remember.”

“No.”

Isabella’s voice softened.

“You were too young.”

Leo looked at the photograph.

The little girl in the picture was around six years old.

The same age Lily was now.

And beside her…

Was a woman.

Beatrice’s mother.

“What does this mean?”

Mateo asked.

Isabella took a deep breath.

“Years ago, before Leo inherited the Rossi empire, Marco discovered the Falcon’s true purpose.”

“The organization wasn’t just about money.”

“It was about controlling information.”

“Controlling people.”

“Controlling families.”

She looked at Beatrice.

“One of the people who helped Marco fight them was her father.”

Beatrice’s eyes widened.

“My father?”

Isabella nodded.

“Your father was one of the original investigators trying to expose the Falcon.”

Leo looked shocked.

“Then why don’t we know his name?”

“Because they erased him.”

Isabella continued.

“When the Falcon realized your father had evidence, they destroyed his life.”

“They made him disappear.”

“They made your family believe he was gone.”

Beatrice’s eyes filled with tears.

“My whole life…”

She struggled to speak.

“My whole life I thought my family was just unlucky.”

Isabella shook her head.

“No.”

“They were targeted.”

Leo looked at Isabella.

“Why didn’t you tell her?”

“Because she didn’t remember.”

“Remember what?”

Isabella looked at Beatrice.

“The night your father hid the final evidence.”

The room became quiet.

“Beatrice was there,” Isabella said.

“She was the only person who saw where he placed it.”

Beatrice stepped back.

“No.”

“I was a child.”

“You saw something.”

“No.”

“You forgot.”

Beatrice touched her head.

Suddenly, memories came back.

A dark room.

Her father kneeling beside her.

A blue box.

A voice telling her:

“If they ever find this, run.”

She covered her mouth.

“Oh my God…”

Leo moved toward her.

“Beatrice.”

She looked at him.

“I remember.”

Her voice broke.

“I remember my father.”

She closed her eyes.

“He told me never to trust people who smile too much.”

Everyone understood.

The reason the Falcon had been searching for Beatrice.

The reason Richard wanted her gone.

The reason Isabella protected her.

Because Beatrice was the final piece.

“But why a maid?” Mateo asked.

Isabella answered.

“Because nobody looks for secrets in invisible people.”

She looked at Beatrice.

“They spent years searching for powerful families.”

“They searched executives.”

“Politicians.”

“Business leaders.”

“They never looked at the woman serving their dinner.”

Leo looked at Beatrice.

And suddenly, everything made sense.

The way Isabella trusted her.

The way Lily connected with her.

The way Beatrice always knew when something was wrong.

She wasn’t just kind.

She was carrying a history she never knew existed.

Then Leo noticed something.

“Wait.”

He looked at Isabella.

“If Beatrice has the evidence…”

A pause.

“Why hasn’t the Falcon found it?”

Isabella’s expression changed.

“Because she doesn’t have it.”

Everyone froze.

“Then who does?”

Isabella looked toward Lily’s room.

Leo immediately understood.

“No.”

Isabella nodded.

“The evidence was never hidden with Beatrice.”

“It was hidden with the person nobody would ever suspect.”

A terrible realization crossed Leo’s face.

“Lily.”

Isabella nodded.

“Marco created a final protection system.”

“He knew the Falcon would come after the evidence.”

“So he hid the access key somewhere they would never search.”

Leo looked at his daughter.

“A child.”

“No.”

Isabella shook her head.

“Not inside Lily.”

She looked at him.

“Because Lily herself is the key.”

Before anyone could respond…

Every phone in the room received the same message.

A video.

Leo opened it.

Richard Kensington appeared on the screen.

But he looked different.

Angry.

Desperate.

“You finally understand.”

Leo’s expression hardened.

“Where is my daughter?”

Richard smiled.

“She’s exactly where she needs to be.”

“Why?”

“Because she’s the only person who can unlock what your family buried.”

The video changed.

A room appeared.

Lily was sitting there.

Safe.

But behind her was a wall covered with symbols.

The Falcon symbol.

And another symbol.

One Leo had never seen before.

Richard spoke again.

“Your family thought power was the answer.”

A pause.

“They were wrong.”

“The answer was always the child.”

The screen went black.

Then one final message appeared.

BRING BEATRICE.

OR YOU LOSE LILY FOREVER.

Leo looked at Beatrice.

She looked terrified.

Not for herself.

For Lily.

“I’ll go.”

Leo immediately shook his head.

“No.”

She looked at him.

“She’s my daughter.”

“And she’s the reason they want me.”

Leo stepped closer.

“No.”

His voice softened.

“She’s the reason we end this.”

For the first time, Beatrice saw something in Leo’s eyes.

Not a crime boss.

Not a powerful man.

A father.

And someone who had finally chosen trust over fear.

But somewhere across the city…

Richard Kensington watched the screen.

And beside him stood someone unexpected.

Someone Leo believed was his ally.

Someone who had been helping him from the beginning.

Richard smiled.

“Everything is ready.”

The person beside him nodded.

“Good.”

Richard looked over.

“Are you sure you can do this?”

The person smiled.

“Yes.”

“After all…”

A pause.

“I’ve been waiting twenty years.”

The camera turned.

May you like

Revealing the face.

Mateo Calder.
