Chapter 2: The Woman Everyone Believed Was Dead

The abandoned warehouse smelled of rain, rust, and dust.

Emily rushed inside before anyone could stop her.

"Mom! I'm back!"

No answer.

Ethan followed slowly.

Then he saw her.

A thin woman lay unconscious on an old mattress covered with worn blankets.

Her face was pale.

Her breathing was shallow.

Years of hardship had stolen her beauty.

But not enough to fool him.

His knees nearly gave out.

"Isabella..."

The name escaped like a broken whisper.

His wife.

The woman declared dead after disappearing during a yacht explosion seven years earlier.

The doctors had never found a body.

The police had closed the case.

Everyone had told him to move on.

But somehow...

She was here.

Alive.

A volunteer doctor Ethan had brought quickly examined her.

"Severe pneumonia."

"Malnutrition."

"Untreated infection."

"If she'd stayed here another day..."

He didn't finish.

Ethan removed his expensive suit jacket and gently covered Isabella.

Then he picked her up himself.

The billionaire who had once been feared by governments now carried his wife with tears running silently down his face.

"I've got you," he whispered.

"I'm never letting you disappear again."
