Chapter 2: The Document That Changed Everything

Chapter 2: The Document That Changed Everything
Emily carefully unfolded the mysterious document everyone had dismissed as meaningless.
"It isn't the paper that matters," she said.
"It's what's inside."
She reached into the envelope and removed another file sealed beneath it.
Unlike the fake-looking cover sheet, this one contained authentic engineering reports from the hotel.
The maintenance supervisor confirmed the signatures.
The report warned that the decorative menu board required two reinforced safety brackets after a recent inspection.
One bracket had been replaced.
The second had never been installed.
Someone had intentionally removed it the night before the wedding.
The groom stared at the report in horror.
His best man suddenly lowered his eyes.
"I'm sorry," he whispered.
"I helped you."
The room erupted.
"You said nobody would get hurt."
"You told me it would just fall after the speeches."
Police officers exchanged quick glances before placing the best man in handcuffs.
The groom tried to run.
He barely reached the ballroom doors before security tackled him to the floor.
Emily wrapped her arm around the little girl, who was now smiling weakly after receiving medical treatment.
