Chapter 3 – Sunrise

Chapter 3 – Sunrise
Six months later.
The courthouse steps were crowded with reporters.
Microphones stretched toward Evelant as cameras flashed endlessly.
She had inherited everything Adrian had tried to steal.
Not because of revenge.
Because the court ruled that every document transferring ownership to him had been obtained through fraud.
Adrian stood behind reinforced glass in a federal prison visitation room.
His expensive suits had been replaced by a gray prison uniform.
His lawyers were gone.
His fake fiancée had disappeared the moment the money vanished.
No one came to visit.
Every night he replayed the same moment in his mind—
The freezer door closing.
The laugh.
The certainty that he had already won.
He finally understood.
The prison had never been the warehouse.
It was the consequences he had built with his own choices.
On the first anniversary of that night, Evelant returned to the abandoned facility one last time.
The freezer had been dismantled.
Only an empty concrete room remained.
She stood quietly as the morning sun poured through a broken skylight.
Cold no longer lived there.
Neither did fear.
She placed the tiny black transmitter on the floor.
Then she walked away without looking back.
Some victories are loud.
Others arrive in silence.
As the sun climbed above the horizon, Evelant didn't feel triumphant.
She felt free.

Because revenge may end a chapter...
But justice is what finally lets someone begin again.
