Chapter 1 – The Lock Reverses

The hallway echoed with the confident rhythm of Adrian's footsteps.

"It's finally over," he muttered, adjusting his coat as he walked toward the security elevator.

Behind him, the industrial freezer remained silent.

No screams.

No pounding.

Exactly as he had planned.

He smiled.

By morning, everyone would believe Evelant had wandered into the abandoned warehouse alone. A tragic accident. Nothing more.

Then...

A sharp electronic beep interrupted the silence.

BEEP.

BEEP.

BEEP.

Adrian frowned.

"What the..."

The emergency lights flickered red.

Every steel security door throughout the warehouse slammed shut with deafening force.

CLANG.

CLANG.

CLANG.

He spun around just as the hallway doors sealed behind him.

"No..."

A mechanical voice echoed through the building.

"Emergency containment protocol activated."

Adrian rushed toward the nearest exit.

Locked.

He grabbed the handle with both hands and pulled.

Nothing.

Inside the freezer, Evelant slowly opened her hand.

Resting in her palm was a tiny black transmitter.

She smiled.

"Right on time."

Weeks earlier, she had secretly discovered Adrian's plan.

Instead of confronting him, she had rewritten the warehouse's emergency system.

Tonight, the freezer was never meant to become her prison.

It had always been his.

She pressed the button.

The ventilation system reversed.

The massive freezer compressors roared to life—not inside her chamber...

...but inside the hallway where Adrian stood trapped.

His smile disappeared.

For the first time that night...

He felt cold.
