Arthur's voice remained steady as he spoke into the phone.

"This is Arthur Hale, estate manager at the Vance residence."

"We have an eight-months-pregnant woman who has fallen from the second-floor landing. She needs immediate medical assistance."

He glanced toward the staircase.

"And dispatch responding officers. This was not an accident."

The words echoed through the foyer.

Eleanor's face lost all color.

Mrs. Hargrove hurried to Sarah's side while the two younger maids stood frozen.

Arthur removed his suit jacket and folded it beneath Sarah's head.

"You are not alone," he told her quietly.

Sarah fought through the pain.

"My baby..."

Arthur nodded reassuringly.

"Stay with me. Help is almost here."

Across the foyer, Eleanor slowly descended the staircase.

"You've misunderstood what happened," she said, forcing a calm smile.

"She slipped."

Arthur looked directly at her.

"I watched you push her."

Silence filled the mansion.

Mrs. Hargrove lowered her eyes.

One of the maids quietly whispered,

"I saw it too."

For the first time in decades, Eleanor realized someone was willing to speak against her.
