Victor Sterling arrived before sunrise.

Not alone.

Federal agents.

Corporate lawyers.

Private security.

More than twenty vehicles surrounded the farmhouse.

Victor stepped out wearing the same perfect smile he used at charity galas.

"Evelyn."

"You've misunderstood everything."

Arthur laughed bitterly.

"You've rehearsed that speech for twenty years."

Victor ignored him.

He looked at Lucas.

"I can still fix this."

Lucas answered quietly.

"You had twenty years."

Victor's smile disappeared.

He turned toward Liam.

"Come here, son."

Liam didn't move.

Instead, he stepped beside Lucas.

"They're both your sons."

Victor looked at Evelyn.

"You don't understand what was at stake."

"No," she replied.

"I understand perfectly."

"You traded one child to protect your empire."

Victor's voice hardened.

"The company funded the project."

"It saved billions."

"It changed medicine."

"It changed psychology."

"It changed everything."

Evelyn stared at the man she had loved.

"And it destroyed our family."

At that moment, police vehicles rolled into the property.

Arthur had done something Victor never expected.

He had mailed every classified file to investigative journalists six months earlier with instructions:

"If anything happens to me..."

"Release everything."
