Chapter 1: The Woman Who Remembered Nothing

Chapter 1: The Woman Who Remembered Nothing
The words barely escaped her lips.
"I never approved this."
The city noise seemed to disappear.
Her wealthy son looked back and forth between his mother and the barefoot boy, unable to understand why the adults suddenly looked terrified.
"What does that mean?" he asked.
His mother didn't answer.
She couldn't.
Because the engraving had awakened something buried deeper than memory.
Her name was Evelyn Sterling.
For twelve years she had believed she had given birth to only one child.
Doctors had told her complications during labor had nearly killed both mother and baby. She had been unconscious for forty-eight hours after the emergency delivery.
When she woke, her husband, Victor Sterling, held a newborn in his arms.
"Our son survived," he had whispered.
"You lost too much blood."
She had cried with relief.
She never questioned him.
Until now.
The barefoot boy slowly closed the watch.
"My grandfather told me to wait here today."
His voice was calm.
"He said my real family would finally remember me."
Evelyn felt her knees weaken.
"What... what is your name?"
"Lucas."
The rich boy frowned.
"My name is Liam."
The boys stared at each other.
Same height.
Same eyes.
Same tiny scar beneath the left eyebrow.
One had expensive shoes.
The other had bare feet hardened by years of walking on broken sidewalks.
They were mirrors divided by fate.
A black SUV suddenly screeched to a stop across the street.
Three men in dark suits jumped out.
One of them shouted,
"Take the watch!"
Lucas immediately stepped backward.
His expression changed.
Not fear.
May you like
Recognition.
"They found me."
