Chapter 2: The Chase Across the City

Before anyone reacted, Lucas turned and ran.

The suited men chased him without hesitation.

"LUCAS!"

Evelyn screamed instinctively.

The name surprised even her.

How had she known it?

Liam looked at his mother.

"You know him?"

"I... I don't know."

But her heart said otherwise.

Without thinking, Evelyn grabbed Liam's hand and ran after the boy.

Traffic erupted into chaos.

Horns blared.

People scattered.

Lucas darted through narrow alleys as if he had memorized every corner of the city.

The men followed relentlessly.

One reached for his radio.

"Target is moving east."

"Retrieve the evidence."

"Alive if possible."

Evelyn heard every word.

Evidence?

Not child.

Evidence.

Suddenly Lucas stumbled.

His bare foot struck broken pavement.

He fell hard.

One of the men reached him first.

Before he could grab the boy—

A silver sedan slammed sideways between them.

The driver's door flew open.

An elderly man stepped out.

White hair.

Weathered face.

Sharp blue eyes.

He pointed a revolver directly at the men.

"Touch my grandson."

"I dare you."

The men froze.

One whispered into his radio.

"It's Arthur."

"We're pulling back."

Within seconds they disappeared.

Arthur quickly lifted Lucas into the car.

Then he looked directly at Evelyn.

"You've finally remembered."

She stared.

"I've never met you."

Arthur shook his head sadly.

"No."

May you like

"But twenty years ago..."

"You trusted me with your second son."
