Chapter 13: The Trial of Truth

Chapter 13: The Trial of Truth

The silver doors sealed shut with a deafening boom.

Outside, the sounds of battle vanished.

Inside the Hall of Echoes, only silence remained.

Aria tightened her grip on the Moonblade.

Lucien slowly lowered the Shadow Spear.

For the first time since she had met him, he looked uncertain.

The spirit of Elder Rowan floated above the ancient stone floor.

His glowing robes drifted as though carried by an invisible wind.

"The Hall recognizes no rank," he declared.

"Not kings."

"Not Alphas."

"Not heirs."

"Only truth."

The Heartstone pulsed in response.

Silver light spread through the chamber, revealing murals hidden beneath centuries of dust.

Aria looked around in awe.

The walls depicted the history of the Moon Council.

Fenrir standing beside the first Sentinels.

The forging of the Four Sacred Relics.

The rise of House Vale.

Then...

The murals changed.

Dark figures appeared among the Council.

Their faces had been deliberately scratched away.

Elder Rowan raised one hand.

"The first trial begins."

A brilliant flash swallowed the chamber.

Aria found herself standing in the courtyard of House Vale.

But it wasn't in ruins.

Children laughed near the fountain.

Warriors trained beneath silver banners.

The estate was alive.

She looked down.

Her body had become transparent.

"A memory..."

A familiar voice called from behind.

"Aria!"

She turned.

A little girl—no older than six—ran across the courtyard.

Young Aria.

Behind her walked Adrian Vale.

Her father.

He looked exactly as he had in her visions.

Strong.

Kind.

Smiling.

Aria's chest tightened.

She wanted to embrace him.

Instead, her hands passed through empty air.

She couldn't change the memory.

She could only watch.

Adrian knelt before his daughter.

"One day," he said gently, "you'll ask why I gave you this pendant."

He fastened the silver crest around little Aria's neck.

"When that day comes..."

"I hope someone wiser than me gives you the answer."

Little Aria frowned.

"Why can't you tell me?"

Adrian smiled sadly.

"Because if I do..."

"You'll lose your childhood."

The memory dissolved into silver mist.

The Hall shifted again.

This time, Lucien stood inside another memory.

He was much younger.

His scar was gone.

His armor carried the crest of the Moon Council.

He and Adrian laughed together while sparring in a moonlit garden.

"You always hold back," Adrian teased.

Lucien grinned.

"Only because you cheat."

The two men embraced like brothers.

Aria stared in disbelief.

They truly had been family.

The scene changed.

Lucien stood before a hooded stranger.

The man's face remained hidden.

Only his voice echoed.

"The Council fears change."

"They'll never unite the packs."

Lucien folded his arms.

"What do you want from me?"

"A better future."

The stranger handed him an ancient scroll.

"Help us reform the Council."

Lucien hesitated.

Then accepted it.

The memory shattered.

Lucien fell to one knee.

His breathing became uneven.

"I didn't know..."

"I swear I didn't know."

Elder Rowan remained expressionless.

"Intent does not erase consequence."

The spirit raised his staff once more.

"The second truth."

Fire consumed the Hall.

Aria watched the night House Vale fell.

She saw masked warriors storming the estate.

She saw Adrian leading children and servants toward hidden tunnels.

Then she saw something impossible.

Lucien.

He stood outside the gates.

But instead of leading the attackers...

He was fighting them.

"No!" Lucien shouted.

"The child isn't here!"

A masked commander slammed him into a wall.

"You were told not to interfere."

Lucien drew his sword anyway.

Three Eclipse warriors fell before him.

Then another.

Then another.

Aria's eyes widened.

"He tried to stop them..."

The vision raced forward.

Lucien reached the hidden tunnel seconds too late.

Smoke filled the corridor.

The entrance had collapsed.

He clawed desperately at the rubble.

"Adrian!"

No answer came.

Only silence.

The memory faded.

Lucien buried his face in his hands.

"I failed."

"I betrayed him."

"And when I realized what they truly wanted..."

"I couldn't save anyone."

For several long moments, no one spoke.

Even Aria found herself questioning everything she believed.

Elder Rowan broke the silence.

"You have seen regret."

"But now..."

"You shall see deception."

The Hall darkened.

The murals cracked.

A hidden image slowly emerged beneath the ancient stone.

It depicted the Moon Council seated around their circular table.

Every member was clearly visible.

Except one.

That figure's face had been carved away.

Not by time.

By intention.

Rowan's glowing eyes fixed on Aria.

"The greatest traitor..."

"...was never Lucien."

Both Aria and Lucien looked up in shock.

"What?" they said together.

The spirit lifted his staff.

The erased face slowly reappeared.

An elderly man with sharp silver eyes.

A crescent-shaped scar beneath his left ear.

Lucien staggered backward.

"No..."

"It can't be."

Aria searched her memories.

She had seen that face before.

Not in the Hall.

Not in a vision.

On a portrait hanging in the Guardian's private chamber.

Rowan's voice echoed through the ancient hall.

"He was the First Elder."

"The highest judge of the Moon Council."

"He planned its destruction from within."

Lucien's hands trembled.

"I never even met the true leader..."

"I was only a pawn."

The spirit nodded solemnly.

"Precisely."

Then the floor beneath the chamber began to shake.

A deep crack split the stone between Aria and Lucien.

From below came a voice neither of them had heard before.

Smooth.

Calm.

Terrifying.

"So..."

"The Hall has finally remembered my name."

A hand wrapped in black armor reached through the widening crack.

Then another.

Someone had entered the Hall from beneath.

A hidden passage no map had ever revealed.

The unseen intruder chuckled.

"You've spent twenty years chasing the wrong traitor."

May you like

"And now..."

"It's time you met the real architect of the Crimson Eclipse."
