Chapter 4 — The Call That Ended the Bennett Name

Chapter 4 — The Call That Ended the Bennett Name
By the time Olivia walked back downstairs, the house felt different.
Not quieter.
Exposed.
Margaret was waiting at the bottom of the stairs, arms crossed, face pale now instead of powerful.
Jason followed behind.
Like a man realizing the door had already closed.
Olivia picked up her phone.
Jason’s voice cracked.
“Olivia, please—don’t do this here.”
She looked at him for the first time since dinner.
And there was no love left in it.
Only clarity.
“I already did it,” she said.
She pressed call.
One ring.
Two.
Then—
“Yes, this is Olivia Bennett,” she said calmly. “I need to report financial fraud, identity manipulation, and recorded evidence of premeditated deception involving offshore transfers.”
Margaret’s face drained completely.
Jason stepped forward.
“No—stop—”
But Olivia raised her hand again.
Not shaking this time.
Steady.
“I want everything frozen immediately,” she continued into the phone. “Accounts, transfers, all of it.”
Jason’s voice broke.
“You’re destroying me.”
Olivia finally smiled.
Small.
Not kind.
Not cruel.
Final.
“No,” she said softly.
“You did that before I ever picked up this phone.”
Outside, sirens were still far away.
But in the Bennett house, something more permanent had already arrived.
May you like
Truth.
And it didn’t knock twice.
