Several weeks later, every Sterling employee gathered inside the company's headquarters.
News crews filled the auditorium.
Business leaders from across the country waited quietly.
Eleanor slowly walked onto the stage.
Beside her stood Ethan, still wearing the same humble blue uniform.
He looked completely out of place among the expensive suits.
Eleanor smiled.
"Some people inherit wealth."
"Some inherit power."
"But leadership..."
She looked directly at Ethan.
"...must be earned."
The audience applauded.
She handed him the tiny gold key.
"This key never opened the vault."
Everyone looked confused.
"It opened people's hearts."
She announced that Ethan would enter the company's executive leadership development program while continuing to work alongside store employees during his training.
"I don't need another businessman," she said.
"I need someone who never forgets how it feels to kneel on the floor and pick up another person's broken pearls."
