Chapter 1: The Test Behind the Key

The jewelry store remained frozen in silence.

The tiny gold key rested in the young worker's trembling palm.

The manager, Olivia Hart, took an involuntary step backward. Every employee knew about the private vault hidden behind the showroom wall. It contained the founder's rarest jewels—pieces so valuable they were never displayed to the public.

But only one person possessed the original key.

It had disappeared twenty years earlier.

"It... it can't be," Olivia whispered.

The elderly woman looked at the young employee with warm, steady eyes.

"What is your name, son?"

"Ethan," he answered quietly. "Ethan Carter."

She smiled.

"You were the only person who saw an old woman instead of an inconvenience."

The wealthy customers exchanged confused glances.

Olivia quickly recovered her composure.

"Security!" she barked. "Escort this woman out immediately!"

Four guards rushed toward them.

Before anyone reached her, the elderly woman slowly reached into the pocket of her faded coat and produced a small leather folder.

She handed it to Ethan.

"Read the first page."

His hands shook as he opened it.

At the top was the original company seal.

Beneath it were words written in elegant handwriting.

The owner of this key has the authority to appoint the future guardian of Sterling Jewelers.

Every employee stared in disbelief.

Olivia's face turned pale.

The elderly woman finally introduced herself.

"My name is Eleanor Sterling."

The room erupted.

The legendary founder of Sterling Jewelers had vanished from public life fifteen years earlier.

Everyone believed she was dead.
