Chapter 2: The Truth Hidden in Silence

Chapter 2: The Truth Hidden in Silence
Logan canceled the gala within minutes.
The guests left quietly, carrying with them the kind of story money could never erase.
Inside the Mercer mansion, the atmosphere had completely changed.
Vanessa insisted the child was having an emotional breakdown.
"He's six years old!" she snapped. "Children imagine things. You're seriously believing this?"
But Logan wasn't listening anymore.
For the first time in years, he reviewed the security footage himself.
Not the edited clips his staff normally prepared.
Every hour.
Every hallway.
Every camera.
He watched Noah shrink whenever Vanessa entered a room.
He watched her grab the boy's wrist harder than necessary whenever no one else was nearby.
He watched her lock Noah alone inside the study for nearly an hour after one of his therapy appointments.
There was no shouting.
No bruises.
Only fear.
Cold.
Calculated fear.
Then Logan asked the nanny why she had resigned after only three months.
She cried before she answered.
"I tried to tell someone," she whispered.
"But Mrs. Blake said no one would ever believe me over her."
One by one, former employees came forward.
A tutor.
A chef.
Two housekeepers.
Different people.
Different years.
The same story.
Vanessa never hit Noah where anyone could see.
She didn't need to.
She controlled him with threats.
"If you tell your daddy," she would whisper, "I'll make sure he sends you away forever."
The silence that everyone had labeled as a medical condition...
Had actually been terror.
Logan felt physically sick.
His son had never been unable to speak.
He had simply believed speaking wasn't safe.
That night, Logan walked into Noah's bedroom alone.
The little boy was sitting beside Marina, who had been asked to stay until things were sorted out.
Logan knelt in front of his son.
"I'm sorry."
Noah looked up.
Logan's voice broke.
"I should have protected you."
For several seconds, neither of them spoke.
Then Noah quietly reached for his father's hand.
May you like
"I know... Daddy."
Those two words hurt more than any accusation ever could.
