The trial lasted weeks.
Evidence was overwhelming: forged documents, tampered medicine, financial motives, and the accident reconstruction.
Margaret never cried. Never apologized.
Only once did she look at Ethan.
“I did this for you.”
But Ethan didn’t respond.
He had nothing left to say.
On the final day, the verdict was read.
Guilty.
As she was taken away, Ava sat beside Ethan in a wheelchair, holding his hand.
Her voice was soft.
“What happens now?”
Ethan looked at her—really looked at her—for the first time without fear, confusion, or pain clouding his eyes.
“Now we rebuild,” he said quietly.
Not the family.
