Ethan stood across from her.
“Tell me it’s not true.”
She didn’t respond.
“Tell me you didn’t plan the accident.”
A long silence.
Then she finally spoke.

Ethan flinched.
“For what?”
Her eyes hardened.
“To protect this family’s future.”
A bitter laugh escaped him.
“You destroyed it.”
Her voice lowered.
“She was never meant to be part of it.”
