PART 6 — The Father, The Daughter, The Future

PART 6 — The Father, The Daughter, The Future

Outside the courthouse, cameras flashed.

But I didn’t see them.

I saw my father waiting.

For the first time in years, I didn’t feel like a victim.

I felt like someone returning home.

“I’m sorry I hid it from you,” I said.

Ricardo shook his head.

“I asked you to survive,” he replied.

“Not to explain yourself.”

We stood there in silence.

The wind moved through the city.

Soft.

Alive.

My father glanced at my belly.

“He will never touch you again,” he said.

I nodded.

“I know.”

Behind us, Santiago was escorted into a black vehicle.

No one looked at him twice.

Because power doesn’t disappear loudly.

It disappears quietly.

Like he did.

ENDING — The Name I Finally Chose

One year later.

A hospital room.

A newborn cry filled the air.

I held my son for the first time.

Small.

Warm.

Real.

My father stood beside me.

“What will you name him?” he asked.

I looked down at my child.

At the future I almost lost.

At the life I rebuilt from ashes.

And I answered:

“Elias.”

Because it meant “God has answered.”

My father smiled faintly.

And for the first time in my life…

I didn’t belong to fear.

I didn’t belong to Santiago.

I didn’t even belong to my father’s empire.

I belonged to myself.

FINAL LINE:

They thought they broke me.

May you like

But all they did…

was introduce me to the version of myself that never needed to be saved again.
