The locks had already been changed.
Neighbors quietly watched from across the street.
Luxury cars that once displayed his name were driven away by employees from Emily's company.
Reporters gathered at the front gate.
"Mr. Carter! Is it true you've been removed from every executive position?"
"Did your wife secretly own the company the entire time?"
He said nothing.
Across the street, a black sedan stopped.
Emily stepped out.
She looked exactly the way she had the day before—calm, composed, and unshaken.
Ethan walked toward her.
"You planned this?"
She shook her head.
"No."
"You planned it for yourself."
He frowned.
"I gave you everything."
Emily met his eyes.
"No, Ethan."
"You thought you did."
"I gave you trust."
"I gave you loyalty."
"I gave you four years to prove that you loved me more than my money."
"You failed every single day."
He lowered his head.
Only then did he remember the papers she had signed on their wedding day.
He had never read them.
He had assumed they were ordinary marriage documents.
In reality, they acknowledged that all major assets would remain under Emily's ownership unless she voluntarily transferred them.
She never did.
His arrogance had blinded him from the very beginning.
Emily turned to leave.
Before getting into the car, she spoke one final sentence.
"The greatest mistake you made wasn't divorcing me."
"It was believing I had nothing."
As the car disappeared down the road, Ethan remained frozen on the sidewalk.
