A tiny cry filled the hospital room.
Lauren smiled through exhausted tears as nurses placed a beautiful baby boy against her chest.
"Hello, Noah."
His tiny fingers wrapped around hers.
The world suddenly felt peaceful.
Outside the room, footsteps approached.
Daniel stood quietly in the hallway.
He had attended counseling.
Accepted responsibility.
Sold the luxury apartment he had shared with Vanessa.
None of it erased what he had done.
Lauren stepped into the hallway while Noah slept.
"I don't expect forgiveness," Daniel said.
"You've said that before."
"I know."
"I just wanted to tell you..."
He struggled to speak.
"Our son deserves better than the man I was."
Lauren studied him.
"I hope someday he gets to know the man you're trying to become."
Daniel nodded, tears filling his eyes.
"I hope so too."
He didn't ask for another chance.
