Chapter 8: The DNA Test

Chapter 8: The DNA Test
Daniel refused to give up.
His attorney demanded a prenatal DNA test.
Lauren agreed.
"I have nothing to hide."
Several anxious weeks later, everyone gathered at the attorney's office.
The sealed envelope sat on the table.
No one spoke.
Daniel slowly opened it.
His lawyer read the report.
"The probability of paternity is..."
He paused.
"...99.9999 percent."
Silence.
Lauren closed her eyes.
She had known.
But hearing it officially still brought overwhelming relief.
Daniel stared at the paper as though it had betrayed him.
His lawyer quietly placed another document beside it.
"Considering the affair, abandonment of your pregnant wife, and false public accusations, your position in the divorce has changed significantly."
Daniel whispered,
"I made a mistake."
Lauren finally looked at him.
"No."
She shook her head.
"A mistake is forgetting an anniversary."
She pointed toward the report.

"You chose to destroy your family."
"There is a difference."
