Chapter 1 — The Call That Changed Everything

The room stayed frozen after the phone lit up.

“Carmen Robles.”

Sofia’s breath caught when she saw the name again, like it had followed her home.

Alexander didn’t move right away. He just stared at the screen, jaw tightening, as if he was trying to control something far older than anger.

“Put it on speaker,” Elena said quietly.

Sofia shook her head immediately. “Dad… don’t. Please.”

But Alexander had already pressed it.

A calm voice filled the room.

“Javier told me she made it to her mother’s house,” Carmen said smoothly, like she was discussing weather. “That’s unfortunate. It would’ve been simpler if she understood her role.”

Silence.

Then Elena spoke, her voice low and steady.

“You assaulted my daughter.”

A soft chuckle came through the speaker.

“Assault is such an ugly word for family correction.”

That word—correction—made Alexander’s expression change. Something in him went still in a way that was more dangerous than rage.

“You touched my child,” he said finally.

Carmen paused for half a second. “Alexander… you always were dramatic.”

The line clicked.

She had hung up.

Sofia started shaking harder. “She’s going to come after me again.”

Alexander looked at her—really looked at her—and something in his face broke open.

“No,” he said. “She’s going to face consequences.”

Elena was already moving. “I’m calling my attorney.”

But Alexander shook his head once.

“No lawyers first.”

He leaned closer, voice controlled, deadly calm.

“We document everything. Hospital. Police. Security footage. Then we make sure she can’t deny a single second of what happened.”

Sofia whispered, “Will Javier be arrested too?”

That question hung in the air longer than anything else.

Because none of them had an answer yet.
