Chapter 2: The Secret My Wife Had Buried

Victoria lunged toward the phone.

I stepped back.

"Don't," I warned.

Her polished image collapsed in seconds.

"She's manipulating you!" Victoria screamed. "She's always wanted money!"

Emily quietly shook her head.

"I only wanted to see my son."

I turned to Victoria.

"Emily said there was something else."

Victoria's breathing became uneven.

"What else did you do?"

Emily swallowed hard.

"When I begged again... Mrs. Cole told me why she hated me."

Victoria closed her eyes.

Emily continued.

"She said... your husband was supposed to marry someone rich."

I frowned.

"What?"

Emily looked at me.

"She told me she married you because your family's company was worth hundreds of millions. She said she never wanted children. She only stayed because of your money."

The words hit me harder than I expected.

But Emily wasn't finished.

"She also said..."

Emily hesitated.

"...that once the twins were old enough, she'd convince you to send me away forever because the babies loved me more than they loved her."

Victoria exploded.

"Enough!"

She grabbed a crystal vase from the dresser and threw it across the room.

It shattered against the wall inches from my head.

The twins woke instantly and began crying.

Emily instinctively rocked them despite the ropes still hanging from her wrists.

That single moment told me everything.
