Chapter 4 – Nothing Left to Take

The Husband exits the building carrying a single cardboard box.
Reporters ignore him.
Employees walk past without recognition.
Across the street, the Mistress quietly enters a waiting taxi.
She never looks back.
The Husband stands alone.
The Wife steps outside moments later.
Elegant.
Composed.
Untouchable.
He finally speaks.
Husband:
"I'm sorry."
She studies him for a long moment.
Not with hatred.
Not with love.
Simply with acceptance.
Wife:
"I forgave you long ago."
A pause.
Wife:
"But forgiveness doesn't erase consequences."
She walks toward her waiting car.
Without looking back, she leaves.
The Husband watches as the car disappears into the evening light.
He finally understands.
Power can be stolen.
Money can be earned.
Trust, once destroyed, never returns.
