Chapter 11 - The Viral Truth

The internet has a very funny way of dispensing instant karma.
It started on a random Tuesday morning with a blurry, two-minute video uploaded to a popular anonymous forum.
The title simply read: "Millionaire CEO Leaves Pregnant Wife to Die in Elevator to Save Side Chick."
A bystander in the building across the street had been filming the fire rescue operation on their smartphone.

The zoom function was surprisingly high quality.
The video clearly showed the massive, terrifying gap in the elevator doors.
It perfectly captured Alex’s frantic, desperate shouting for Valerie.
The microphone caught the exact moment he pulled his mistress out, completely ignoring the soot-covered hand reaching out from the darkness behind her.
By noon, the video had crossed three million views on a major social media platform.
By three o'clock, major news networks were analyzing the footage on national television.
Alex’s phone was practically melting from the sheer volume of incoming calls from furious board members and cancelled business partners.
He sat alone in his dark, empty condo, watching his entire empire burn to the ground on his glowing television screen.
His face was plastered on every single news channel, labeled as the most hated man in America.
Meanwhile, across town, Lucy was sitting safely in her sunlit apartment, completely shielded from the chaos.
Her phone buzzed, and she saw a text message from Mark.
"Have you seen the news?" the message read, followed by a wide-eyed emoji.
Lucy turned on her tablet and scrolled through the endless wave of public outrage directed at her ex-husband.
People were furiously demanding that his company drop him as CEO immediately.
Women across the country were forming support groups online, calling Lucy an absolute symbol of quiet strength and resilience.
She wasn't a victim in the public's eyes anymore.
She was a survivor who had walked away from a toxic, narcissistic monster with her head held high.
A gentle knock echoed at her heavy front door.
Lucy looked through the security camera Mark had installed to see his smiling face on the screen.
She unlocked the heavy deadbolt and swung the door open.
Mark stood there holding two massive bags of groceries and a giant bouquet of fresh pink roses.
"I figured you might want to avoid going outside today," Mark smiled, stepping into the warm apartment.
"The paparazzi are already swarming the city looking for you."
"Let them look," Lucy laughed genuinely, taking the beautiful flowers from his hands.
"They won't find me here."
She watched Mark walk into her kitchen, casually rolling up his sleeves to start unpacking the fresh food.
The contrast between the two men in her life could not have been more striking.
Alex had violently destroyed everything he touched with his selfish vanity.
Mark, on the other hand, only knew how to rebuild and protect.
Lucy gently placed her hand on her growing stomach, feeling a tiny, strong kick from inside.

The past was finally dead and buried in the ashes of that terrible fire.
Her beautiful, unwritten future was just beginning.
