Chapter 3 – The Truth Comes Out

Chapter 3 – The Truth Comes Out
The following morning, Daniel called every member of the family.
Not to argue.
To reveal something.
At noon, everyone gathered at the dining table.
Daniel placed several folders in front of them.
Bank statements.
Mortgage payments.
Property taxes.
Medical bills.
Patricia frowned.
"What is this?"
"The truth."
For five years, Daniel had quietly paid nearly every major expense in the household.
The mortgage.
The utilities.
Home repairs.
Even Eric's college tuition.
Everyone had assumed Patricia managed everything.
She hadn't.
Daniel did.
"And while I worked overtime to support this family..."
He looked toward the empty chair where Emily usually sat serving everyone else.
"...my pregnant wife was treated like unpaid help."
Patricia's face turned pale.
"You owe us respect."
Daniel slowly pushed the final document across the table.
It was the deed to the house.
His name—not Patricia's—was listed as the legal owner.

Silence.
