CHAPTER 6 – The Life He Could Never Get Back

Six months later, Marcus stood outside the headquarters of Whitmore International in Zurich.

He had flown across the world carrying only one hope.

Forgiveness.

Through the glass walls, he saw Julianne walking confidently through the lobby, surrounded by executives who greeted her with genuine respect.

She looked happier than he had ever seen her.

Their children ran toward her after school, laughing as she knelt to hug them.

Marcus realized something that hurt more than losing his fortune.

They no longer needed him.

Julianne noticed him standing outside but didn't walk over.

She simply offered a polite smile—the kind reserved for strangers—and continued inside with her children.

Edward Whitmore stopped beside Marcus before entering the building.

"You know," he said quietly, "wealth can be rebuilt."

Marcus lowered his head.

"But trust..."

Edward nodded.

"Trust is priceless. And once it's shattered, even a lifetime may not be enough to restore it."

The doors closed.

Marcus remained alone on the sidewalk, watching the family he had thrown away disappear into a future that no longer included him.

At last, he understood that the greatest loss wasn't the mansion, the money, or the inheritance.

It was the woman who had loved him before he had earned anything... and the children who had once waited every evening for their father to come home.

Some mistakes cost money.

His cost an entire lifetime.

THE END
