PART 2 — A Homecoming Jasper Never Expected

PART 2 — A Homecoming Jasper Never Expected

By the time the bus reached my stop, three black SUVs were already waiting outside the apartment building.

Men in tailored suits stepped out the moment the doors opened.

"Ms. Robertson?"

The oldest among them nodded respectfully.

"My name is Daniel Brooks. Your father sent us."

He gently took the diaper bag while another security officer carried my overnight belongings from the bus.

No one touched Toby.

No one asked unnecessary questions.

Their only concern was making sure we were safe.

I had lived in that apartment with Jasper for nearly two years.

As I unlocked the front door, I realized how little of it actually belonged to me emotionally.

My hospital discharge papers still sat on the kitchen counter.

The leftovers Jasper had mentioned were sitting in the refrigerator exactly as promised.

Not a single flower.

Not a single welcome-home note.

Nothing to celebrate the birth of our son.

Daniel looked around quietly.

"Would you like us to begin packing?"

I nodded.

"Only Toby's things and my personal belongings."

"What about your husband's possessions?"

"They're exactly where they belong."

An hour later, my father arrived.

Finnley Robertson walked into the apartment wearing a navy suit despite it being a Sunday afternoon.

The moment he saw me, his expression broke.

"My little girl..."

For the first time since leaving the hospital, I cried.

He carefully hugged me, avoiding my incision while gently kissing Toby's forehead.

"I should've seen this sooner," he whispered.

"I trusted him because you loved him."

"You have nothing to apologize for," I replied.

"I believed him too."

May you like

His eyes hardened.

"That ends today."
