The Harper estate stood nearly empty.
Luxury furniture carried auction tags.
Vehicles had been repossessed.
Gray Technologies officially filed for bankruptcy protection.
Patricia sat alone in the living room.
There was a knock.
She rushed to the door.
Evelyn stood outside.
Patricia immediately dropped to her knees.
"I'm sorry."
"I judged you."
"I treated you terribly."
"I destroyed my own family."
Evelyn looked at the woman silently.
"I used to dream that one day you'd call me your daughter."
Patricia covered her face and cried.
"I was wrong."
"I know."
Evelyn's voice held no anger.
Only peace.
"But forgiveness doesn't always rebuild what pride destroys."
She turned and walked away.
