CHAPTER 1 — THE MORNING AFTER SILENCE

By 6:00 a.m., Nathan Brooks was already on his way back.
He didn’t know yet.
He was still believing in the version of the world where consequences needed time to catch up.
His phone had died somewhere between two unanswered calls from Camille and a growing list of missed alerts from his CFO.
He told himself it was just a glitch.
A temporary issue.
Something his team would fix before breakfast.
But when his car turned into the main road leading to the Brooks headquarters, he noticed something strange.
The gate was open.
Not just open—unlocked, unmanned, abandoned.
“Where is security?” he muttered.
No answer.
Inside the building, the lobby was empty.
No reception staff.
No guards.
No morning assistants.
Only the echo of his footsteps against marble that suddenly felt unfamiliar.
He pressed the elevator button.
Nothing.
Dead.
His breathing tightened for the first time.
He took the stairs.
Floor after floor, something became clearer.
The silence wasn’t normal.
It was deliberate.
When he reached his office floor, he stopped.
His assistant’s desk was gone.
All of them.
Desks cleared. Computers removed. Personal items erased like they had never existed.
A printed notice lay on the floor.
He picked it up.
His eyes scanned the first line:
“All employment contracts have been terminated effective immediately.”
His hand shook slightly.
“No… this isn’t possible.”
He pushed into his office.
Empty.
Not reorganized.
Not paused.
Erased.
His phone finally powered back on.
Dozens of notifications exploded at once.
Bank alerts.
Board resignations.
Asset freezes.
Emergency legal filings.
And one final message from an unknown number:
“You were never the owner. You were the product.”
May you like
Nathan’s knees nearly gave out.
And for the first time in his life, arrogance failed to protect him.
